| The Norfolk Pros Foundation was created in 1995. It is a registered charity committed to assisting youth in our communities by donating to cultural, educational and other significant organizations that are geared toward helping children succeed and overcome adversity.
It all began in 1983, when Rick Wamsley allowed his name to be associated with a local golf tournament to create an interest in a fund raising project to build a new arena in his hometown of Port Dover. After that goal was achieved with much success, children's charities were the priority for our fund raising dollars. In 1992, Rob Blake and Nelson Emerson entered the National Hockey League. They joined Rick in giving something back to their community by coming home every year to raise money for local charities. Because of their high-profile involvement, an annual golf tournament & slo-pitch game called the Norfolk Pros Celebrity Classic was organized. In 1997, Dwayne Roloson, in 1999, Jassen Cullimore, in 2001, Ryan VandenBussche, and then, in 2005, Geordie Kinnear, all major league hockey players from this area, joined as Honorary Directors of the Norfolk Pros Foundation.
